Event: The Purple List a gay dementia venture

After booking you'll be sent a link to watch the play on Youtube and should then join us for the live Q&A on 23rd.

It is a 35 minute, one-man play. It opens on Sam and Derek’s wedding day and goes on to explore the highs and lows of their lives as Derek’s dementia progresses.

Told from Sam’s point of view, the play is a touching, sad, yet often funny, insight into the lives of these two gay men as they navigate their way through the care system and the changes in their personal relationship. A stand-alone piece of theatre that can also be used as a training tool in a range of issues regarding dementia and diversity for those working in social care and for those caring for, or involved with people living with dementia.

The play hopes to raise awareness around the potential issues for those caring for someone with dementia in general, and the barriers to support which members of the gay community may perceive and experience. If you'd like to know more have a look on the website purplelisttheatre

This a film version of The Purple List, which will be accompanied by a live digital Q&A on 23rd September

Event: Ageing without children sharing hobbies & projects

AWOC Leeds connects and supports local people who are Ageing Without Children. This may be by choice or circumstance and includes people who never had children, who have survived their children, who are estranged from their children, or whose children live far away. While there are challenges and difficulties in being AWOC, there are good things too!

For the Age Proud Festival, we'd like to celebrate the hobbies and projects we're proud of. We'll be featuring a presentation by Vicky of Clem's Garden, a social enterprise based in Huddersfield run entirely by local volunteers, a core group of members who are 50+ and who don't have children or grandchildren to channel their care, skills and experience into. They work together to grow and sell environmentally sustainable cut flowers; supporting local charities and community projects with their profits.

People who attend will also have a chance to share the projects and hobbies that they're proud of.
