Event: Ey Up! Is this ageist?

Ashton Applewhite is a writer and activist based in Brooklyn, New York.

In her TED talk (click here) Ashton would like us to think differently about growing older. As she writes: "Ageing is a natural, lifelong, powerful process that unites us all. So how come so many of us unthinkingly assume that depression, diapers, and dementia lie ahead? Because of ageism -- the last socially sanctioned prejudice."

She's the author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism, the voice of the Yo, Is This Ageist?, and the co-founder of the Old School Anti-Ageism Clearinghouse.

Age Proud Leeds, the local campaign to stand up against ageism we have adopted Ashton's vision and created a Yorkshire version - Ey Up! Is this ageist?

Ashton has created a series of videos for Yo and suggests you check them out by clicking here

This session will have us listen to Ashton sharing some of her examples of ageism and inviting you to share yours! Hopefully this will be an uplifting session Whether you’re older or hoping to get there, this session will shake you by the shoulders, cheer you up, make you mad, and change the way you see the rest of your life. Be Age Proud!
