Event: Asha Neighbourhood Project

We will  invite older and younger women in the community to bring some picnic food that represents their country of birth, race and ethnicity and wear traditional outfits to celebrate Age Proud. The  picnic in the park will give an opportunity for the older people to learn and create memories with a younger group to them.

We aim to celebrate the diversity of older people and to support everyone to overcome the barriers to their full inclusion and participation in our activity. The walk and picnic in the park will give an opportunity for the older people to learn and create memories with a younger peer group members.

The younger women will befriend the older women and keep the conversations flowing. Help them if they struggle to walk. Give them company if they cannot walk with the group. This will give them the time to reflect, relieve, and reassess their life, contributing to their mental and physical well-being. Improve social skills, family and friends and near neighbourhood relationships.

Event: 'Imagine an excellent bus service'

Leeds Civic Trust are hosting a unique community engagement project where we are asking everyone and anyone in Leeds to 'Imagine an Excellent Bus Service'. Common complaints we hear about the buses are that they are unreliable, infrequent and expensive, and we'd like to change that - but we need your help.

Whether you're an avid bus user, or if you've never stepped foot on one in your life, we'd love to hear from you. Come and take part in this informal online discussion group as part of Age Proud Festival where we'll chat all things buses: from your good (and bad!) experiences, what improvements you'd like to see, and how you think Leeds can persuade more people to choose the bus and leave their cars at home.
